This ‘handheld evaporative personal fan’ idea was developed on the drawing boards in 2007 by Standard Merit Research. The underlying problem was simple. Kelvin’s mother, who was in her 50s was suffering from severe hot flashes - a side effect of menopause. She wanted something which she could keep by her side and cool her down whenever a hot flash strikes. Thus, Kelvin travelled around the world implementing dozens of personal cooling devices including pocket fans, misting fans, and cooling gadgets. Unfortunately, they all failed to provide one requirement: to provide literal cool air on a personal and portable scale.

Thus, Kelvin decided to gather a team of designers and engineers to create their own product. The aim was to shrink a conventional evaporative air cooler into a hand held device so Kelvin’s mother can take it anywhere she wants.

The Standard Merit Research team implemented on various designs. It took many prototypes and months of research and testing before mass production of the perfected hand held air cooler you see today.

The newest generation of Handy Cooler™ is a masterpiece of personal fan engineering. It is a balance between weight and effectiveness. A balance between air power and battery endurance. A balance between sponge filter duration and size. There is only one purpose in our R&D team - to engineer the most effective personal cooling fan that really cools the air.
